A mushroom product has been recalled due to fears of a Listeria contamination.
Why It Matters
Listeria monocytogenes can lead to severe infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In pregnant women, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
What To Know
New Age International Inc. has issued a recall for its Daily Veggies brand Enoki Mushrooms due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

The recall affects all 200g packages of Daily Veggies Enoki Mushrooms, labeled as “Product of Korea” and marked with UPC code 8809159458890.
The contamination was identified after the West Virginia Department of Agriculture tested samples collected from a store in West Virginia on January 14 and detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in some 200g packages of Daily Veggies Enoki Mushrooms from Korea, according to a statement published on the FDA website.
Consumers who have purchased these mushrooms are advised not to consume them. Instead, they should dispose of the products immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
No illnesses have been reported to date, the statement said.
What People Are Saying
New Age declined to comment.
The FDA previously told Newsweek: “Most recalls in the U.S. are carried out voluntarily by the product manufacturer and when a company issues a public warning, typically via news release, to inform the public of a voluntary product recall, the FDA shares that release on our website as a public service.
“The FDA’s role during a voluntary, firm-initiated, recall is to review the recall strategy, evaluate the health hazard presented by the product, monitor the recall, and as appropriate alert the public and other companies in the supply chain about the recall.”
