The New York Yankees have a crucial offseason ahead of them. They put together a solid offseason last winter after losing Juan Soto to free agency. One of their biggest additions was Cody Bellinger, who put together a huge season alongside Aaron Judge.
But Bellinger’s contract ran out at the end of the season, so he currently sits in free agency. The Yankees will need to dig deep into their pockets to bring Bellinger back.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post recently projected Bellinger would sign a massive six-year, $180 million contract in free agency this offseason.
“He’s basically erased those two subpar offensive years, especially after showing in The Bronx he is again a terrific two-way player,” Heyman wrote. “The Yankees want him back, but the Mets, Phillies and his former Dodgers team also fit. He only says he wants to play for a winner, but hard to know if that rules out the Mets, who have openings at both CF and 1B.”
Bellinger would be the top player the Yankees could add this offseason. Kyle Tucker might be the better player to sign, but he’s going to be twice as expensive, so the Yankees might be better off going after Bellinger.
There is bound to be some competition in the Bellinger sweepstakes, including teams like the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, but the Yankees should be willing to match any offer on the table for the star.
