The Arizona Diamondbacks entered Sunday, the final day before the All-Star break, 6 1/2 games out of a wild card spot. They have a few players who could be hot names on the trade block.
While the Diamondbacks are not out of the postseason race, they may not have a realistic path to October. The New York Yankees have often been linked to Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez, and USA Today’s Bob Nightengale revealed the team’s intentions with him.
“They are making starters Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly, All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suárez and first baseman Josh Naylor available,” wrote Nightengale. “They are all free agents after the season. The D-backs are searching for young pitching in return.”

Suárez being made available is great news for the Yankees. He is arguably the best fit for them at the trade deadline this year. He has 31 home runs this year and a .886 OPS. He would give the Yankees a reliable everyday third baseman.
In addition to Suárez being available, Gallen and Kelly could also be fits on the Yankees. Clarke Schmidt will miss the rest of the season, and the Yankees are already without Gerrit Cole. Max Fried also exited his last start with a blister that could factor into his performance down the line.
Both Kelly and Gallen will be free agents after the season and could be solid rental arms for any contender. Kelly has a 3.41 ERA this season, while Gallen has struggled.
The former All-Star and Cy Young Award candidate has a 5.40 ERA in 20 starts. Perhaps a change of scenery could do him some good. There may be no team that matches up with the Yankees better at the trade deadline than the Diamondbacks. If they are declaring themselves sellers, Brian Cashman may need to get on the phone.
