Upon learning that she was pregnant with her ex’s baby, Hailey Locklear was anxious about telling her new boyfriend the news. But it turns out, she had nothing to fear because his response was beyond anything she could have hoped for.

Locklear, 23, discovered that she was expecting her second child shortly after splitting up with her ex-boyfriend. She had just started seeing Saavyon Melvin, 24, and she told Newsweek that she “was scared” to tell him because she wasn’t sure how he’d react.

She knew he had a kind heart though and was hopeful that he would stick by her no matter what.

So, she broke to news to Melvin, unprepared for what he would say in return.

“In that moment his response was just, ‘that’s fine, I will raise him,'” Locklear, of Lumberton, North Carolina, said.

“Once I told Saavyon that the baby’s father didn’t want anything to do with him, he didn’t hesitate to tell me that he would raise Colson as if he was his biologically. He reminded me that I wouldn’t go through my pregnancy alone and he would be there every step of the way,” she continued.

In the last year, Melvin has certainly kept his promise. He was by Locklear’s side throughout the pregnancy and delivery, he gets up in the night for the baby, and he makes sure Locklear has time to herself (which is quite the commodity for a mom-of-two).

She is incredibly grateful to Melvin for all his help, and for stepping up at such a crucial time. Now, seeing him with her children makes her heart “overflow with joy.”

Locklear shared a sweet video on TikTok (@hailey.j30) praising Melvin for all the help he’s given. Alongside the footage, which shows Melvin bonding with her sons, the caption reads: “God knows how much we needed this man in our life.”

In the days since it was posted, the video has gone viral with over 884,300 views and more than 93,200 likes on TikTok at the time of writing. His commitment and support have undoubtedly melted plenty of hearts online.

“When I see Colson and Saavyon together, I can’t do anything but thank God for sending him to raise my baby,” Locklear told Newsweek.

“Saavyon has definitely gone above and beyond with helping. From constantly staying in the hospital with me from pre-term labor until delivery, midnight feedings, always making sure I have time to myself. I can’t put into words the help that Saavyon has been for me and my boys.”

She had no idea the video would capture so much attention, but Locklear has been heartened by all the supportive comments she’s received so far.

Among the 1,900 responses on the TikTok video, one user wrote: “this is what defines a man.”

Another person replied: “Biology isn’t everything. Sometimes it’s about who steps up.”

While one commenter added: “There’s something so special about a man choosing to be your dad. This is beautiful.”
