A heartwarming gesture by a neighbor who brought home a new puppy stunned the internet.
While bathing her fiancé’s dog, Reddit user mvw09 heard a canine from another apartment yapping nonstop. The dog’s barks pierced through the apartment complex. She compared the sounds to a dog who might have been “locked up in a kennel for 15 days straight.” The couple became curious about who owned the dog because they never noticed any of their neighbors with one before, but they continued with what they were doing.
A few minutes passed, and she heard a knock on the door. When she opened the door, she discovered a Target gift card placed at the doorstep with a note attached. She looked around and noticed more gift cards left at the neighbors’ doors.
The note read: “Hi neighbor! I just got a new furry friend! I’ll do my best to keep things quiet, but thank you for your patience as we settle in. THANK YOU!”
She shared the “not so common neighbor story” in a March 22 Reddit post to the subreddit channel r/apartmentliving. She said she was left “speechless” after reading the note and completely amazed by the generosity.
As it turns out, the newest neighbor recently added a puppy to the family and went out of their way to acknowledge how this would be a difficult period for her neighbors as she trains the puppy. Apologizing in advance for the new noise, the new dog owner purchased $10 gift cards for the three upstairs neighbors and four for the ones living in the apartments below.
Part of the Reddit post reads: “The genuineness and the magnitude of consideration and effort to show one’s respect for another’s peace and comfort of living is so pure and is definitely of higher spiritual value and morals that just don’t exist anymore.”
Newsweek reached out to mvw09 via Reddit for additional comment.

The internet melted at the neighbor’s kind gesture, and as of Tuesday, the Reddit post quickly amassed over 9,300 upvotes and 179 comments.
“Bless her that’s literally so kind and thoughtful,” commented a Reddit user.
A second wrote: “My faith in humanity has been refreshed once again…”
Another added: “I think it’s so nice, I would have used the gift card to buy something for the dog,” to which the poster replied that was her plan.
