Woman Sends Husband Out for Lunch, Unprepared for What He Buys

A quick errand for lunch took an unexpected, feathery turn when a man returned home not with takeout, but with a tiny baby duck.

In a viral TikTok video shared by the couple’s friend, Juliann Brown, but filmed by wife Abby Biondi, the man admits his weak point when it comes to solitary baby animals. Since the video was posted, it has received over 400,000 likes. Brown and Biondi spoke to Newsweek about the unexpected new family member, and how this isn’t quite the first time it’s happened.

In the video, Biondi asks her husband, David, about his outing for lunch as he holds a small, ventilated cardboard box.

“What did you do?” Biondi asks him.

“I got a baby duck,” he responds. “I went in to buy feed and it was the only baby in the entire thing, and it was so sad being alone that I got it.”

Biondi’s reaction in the moment wasn’t shock, but laughter rooted in a history of similar surprises.

“When David walked into the bedroom with the ‘wrong’ happy meal box, I immediately started laughing,” Biondi told Newsweek. “I knew this was going to be a good explanation, and made the split second decision to capture the moment as proof for my friends and coworkers of how this ‘keeps happening.'”

Biondi explained the backstory. At a work dinner a few weeks prior, she had tpold her coworkers how she and her husband periodically “spring” new animals on each other. They laughed, but couldn’t quite believe it—until now.

‘He’ll do it again’

Biondi initially only shared the video with Brown and one coworker. Brown found the clip instantly relatable and heartwarming.

“I immediately burst out laughing when Abby sent me the video,” Brown said. “David walking in with a duck instead of lunch was the most hilarious and heartwarming surprise—so unexpected, but so him.” Recognizing David’s “soft heart, especially for animals,” Brown said she felt the moment would resonate online.

The interaction also offers a glimpse into the Biondis’ relationship dynamic.

“I hope people see the humor David and I share in our daily lives together,” Biondi said. “We have been married almost 13 years and our shared senses of humor have brought us through some tough times together…The sweet sheepishness clearly visible on David’s face says it all—he’s done this before and he’ll do it again.”

The duckling, affectionately named “Kevin” of Home Alone fame is reportedly thriving. And while Kevin is settling in well, David is apparently less comfortable with his newfound fame.

“I think it has to be shared that David is the absolute last person who would want to go viral. It’s honestly half the fun of this experience for the rest of us,” Biondi joked.

“I’ve started reading flattering comments from TikTok to him out loud,” she added, “which he responds to by blushing and leaving the room.”
