Woman Rescues Supposedly ‘Independent’ Shelter Cat, But There’s a Problem

Woman rescues independent cat

A woman who thought she was rescuing a supposedly independent cat that didn’t need much affection has left the internet in hysterics with what she actually got.

Morgan Thomas, 29, adopted 7-year-old Twilight from an animal shelter in Indiana in 2020. At the time, the description on her bio described her as “independent,” which Thomas didn’t mind at all.

After meeting Twilight, Thomas told Newsweek that she “intuitively felt a pull” and instantly adopted her. A cat would be the perfect company as she started out as a therapist—but she had no idea just how attached Twilight would become.

“I really didn’t know much about her and was going off a short bio of a sentence or two,” Thomas, of Denver, Colorado, said. “When I visited the shelter, I had to request to see her because she was sick in the back with a cold.”

“I asked the universe to send me a sign to make sure this was the cat for me, and I saw the angel number 333 on her cage. That’s always been a sign for me, so I knew instantly that she was my girl,” Thomas continued.

Twilight was quite timid initially and hid under the bed for the first few days. However, she “quickly became attached” to Thomas and it was clear that this was no independent feline after all.

In fact, Twilight would happily lay on top of Thomas all day if she could.

Thomas said: “Within a few days, I realized that she is a lover girl, and it’s really special that I found her. I think she wishes I didn’t have to work because she would lay on me 24/7 if she could. She gets a little grumpy when I have to wake her up and see a client.”

Looking back, Thomas realized that Twilight was “a cuddler from the start,” and independence was never her mantra.

Thomas shared a hilarious post on TikTok (@morganonealll_) showing her senior cat laying on top of her. During the clip, she joked that “this is her every time I lay down.” The video has delighted internet users, leading to more than 1.5 million views and over 374,300 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

Of course, Thomas wouldn’t have her any other way and loves how cuddly Twilight is. She’s now 12 years old and has a younger feline sibling, Aura Moon, who she also loves to lay with.

At 3 years old, Aura Moon may be the baby of the family, but Thomas jokes that “everyone knows that Twilight is the real baby.”

Internet users can’t get enough of Twilight’s clinginess, as they’re obsessed with her constant need for affection.

Thomas told Newsweek: “It reminded me how lucky I am to have a cat that wants this level of attention. It was a pleasant surprise that she actually loved attention, because same. She’s helped me through some really tough times, and I’m eternally grateful for her.”

Social media users have lauded Twilight for being a strong independent woman (in her own way), leading to over 2,700 comments on the TikTok post already.

One comment reads: “She was just being strong until she found someone to trust…soft girl era.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “Who doesn’t lie on their resume?”

While another person replied: “God forbid a girl pick up a new hobby.”
