The North Carolina Tar Heels entered the college basketball season ranked No. 25 in the country and have quickly climbed to No. 18 after back-to-back dominant wins over Central Arkansas and No. 19 Kansas, who have since fallen to No. 25 following the loss.
The biggest storyline for the Tar Heels so far has been true freshman forward Caleb Wilson, who has been nothing short of spectacular through the first two games and has served as the driving force behind North Carolina’s early success.
In just 27 minutes per game, Wilson is averaging 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals while shooting an incredible 77.3% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc.
Following his impressive week, the ACC and UNC announced that Wilson has been named both the conference’s Rookie of the Week and Player of the Week.

Fans reacted to news:
“Let’s go! Hope to see lots of these honor!” A fan said.
Someone else added, “First of many.”
Another person wrote, “Wilson is the first Tar Heel to win ACC Rookie & Player of the Week in the same week since Cole Anthony in 2019.”
“And he’s gonna go even crazier since Seth is out for a min,” one more fan commented.
Caleb Wilson earned the honor over Duke freshman Cameron Boozer, who also had a stellar week. Wilson’s numbers could continue to rise following the unfortunate news that Tar Heels guard Seth Trimble suffered a broken bone in his left forearm. Trimble is scheduled to undergo surgery this week and is expected to miss an extended period of time.
