
President Donald Trump issued a new statement regarding the House-passed bill he has dubbed the “big, beautiful bill,” calling on Republican Senators to work on getting it passed and to his desk before the Fourth of July.
Newsweek reached out to Republican Senate Leader John Thune’s office for comment via email Monday.

The bill touted by Trump is a key avenue for Republicans to push forward the White House agenda following sweeping GOP election victories in November.
Conservative Republicans have historically favored deep budget cuts while centrist-leaning Republicans have been more inclined to keep certain programs for the benefit of voters in their respective states.
Infighting within the party could put the bill in peril due to the narrow majorities the GOP has in both chambers of Congress and the united front Democrats have against the legislation.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the president touted the bill and what he calls a “Historic Opportunity to turn our Country around after four disastrous years under Joe Biden.”
Trump noted the proposed tax cuts, permitting for energy, a new air traffic control system, new southern border wall construction and more.
Concluding, the president issued a message to Republican lawmakers saying, “With the Senate coming back to Washington today, I call on all of my Republican friends in the Senate and House to work as fast as they can to get this Bill to MY DESK before the Fourth of JULY. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
In a follow-up post, the president also doubled down in part on previous comments, saying that “there will be NO CUTS to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid. In fact, they will be saved from the incompetence of the Democrats. The Democrats, who have totally lost their confidence and their way, are saying whatever comes to mind — Anything to win!”
According to Punchbowl News Reporter Andrew Desiderio on X earlier on Monday, Thune spoke about getting the reconciliation bill to Trump’s desk by the national holiday.
“THUNE says goal is for House to take up & pass whatever the Senate produces on reconciliation — so it’s on Trump’s desk by July 4 — tho he acknowledged Johnson’s fragile majority,” Desiderio said.
Thune reportedly said, according to Desiderio, that the Senate will attempt to find more savings and make permanent some of the proposed tax provisions.
