Tears at golden retriever waiting alone in park for friend to play with him

A dog patiently waiting for another furry friend to play with him at the park started bringing viewers to tears, but then his luck turned around.

Owner Andrea Conord recently brought her golden retriever, Boo, to the dog park for some playtime and exercise. But when they arrived, he was the only dog in the park. Unwilling to play with Concord, Boo sat and waited by the park’s entrance, looking through the fence as he kept the faith that a friend would show up eventually.

“I get sad for him when I see him waiting because he doesn’t know if others will show up,” Conord told Newsweek via Instagram. “We try and play with him and throw the ball, but he ignores it and waits for another dog to show up.”

Dogs are inherently social animals, especially golden retrievers, making early socialization an important step in training and keeping them happy. The time your dog should spend playing with another canine depends on their character, how they interact with others and your lifestyle, according to a vet-approved article from Dogster. Not every dog will love interacting or playing with others, but those that do can build their confidence.

However, Boo’s confidence drifted away at the beginning of the October 20 Instagram video posted to the owner’s account, @andreaconord. Conord said they usually arrive at the dog park by noon, hopeful that another furry friend he’s built bonds with over time would show. Just as he began to give up, Boo’s wish came true.

A car pulled up to the dog park with the back window down, revealing another golden retriever. Conord said she had no idea another dog was coming, but this canine friend, Rusty, is one they’ve met before from previous park visits.

As soon as Rusty came into the park, the two friends went about their day, sniffing the ground and following each other around. They picked right up where they left off last time at the park.

What Do the Comments Say?

The Instagram video put viewers on an emotional rollercoaster, but as relief set in, the clip became a hit, and as of Monday, it reached over 12,374 likes.

“That was one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. Thank goodness Rusty came,” wrote a viewer.

Another added: “Yay for Rusty!! I was about to cry.”

Someone else asked: “Wait, he needs a friend!! Why not get another one?! (Easier said than done but lol this breaks my heart!!!)”
