Week 10 of the NFL season is now upon us, and we’ve now seen exactly how star pass rusher Micah Parsons has fit with the Green Bay Packers following the blockbuster offseason trade with the Dallas Cowboys just before Week 1.
Parsons was one of the biggest stories of the offseason as he sought a long-term contract extension with Dallas. However, after owner and general manager Jerry Jones reportedly didn’t like the numbers on the table, Parsons not only held out of practice and preseason action but ultimately requested a trade from the organization.
It took some time, but Dallas eventually honored that request, sending Parsons to Green Bay in exchange for two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. Parsons then agreed to a four-year, $188 million deal with the Packers.
Now, a new and rather surprising detail has emerged about that trade, as revealed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter ahead of Sunday’s Week 10 slate.
According to Schefter, the Cowboys included a “poison pill” clause in the deal to prevent Parsons from being traded in the near future to their NFC East rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. The timing of that revelation is especially interesting, as Parsons and the Packers are set to face the Eagles on Monday night.

“That’s a clever move by the Cowboys. They traded away their star but made sure he won’t hurt them twice by landing with Philly right away,” a fan said.
Someone else added, “That’s interesting lol.”
Another person wrote, “Wait, this is allowed?? That’s awesome.”
“Jerry is straight up terrified of Howie,” one more fan commented.
Micah Parsons is a Pennsylvania native and played his college football at Penn State, so it’s no secret why the Cowboys may have been a bit wary that he could eventually end up with the Philadelphia Eagles. Such a move would not only strengthen one of their biggest NFC East rivals but also force Dallas to face Parsons twice a year — a scenario Jerry Jones clearly wanted to avoid.
That concern reportedly led to the inclusion of this rare but fascinating stipulation in the trade deal, preventing Parsons from being dealt to Philadelphia in the near future.
