A Samoyed who once lived for the snow suddenly found himself having to hide from it, due to his heartbreaking circumstances—but his owners are determined to give him the best winter yet, one told Newsweek.
In a viral Instagram video shared on Tuesday by @life.with.a.landcloud, the 7-year-old pup named Boomer can be seen shivering in the snow, despite being one of the most snow-loving dog breeds in the world.
The text says: “I bet you a million dollars that you have never seen a Samoyed shivering. Yes, the ‘snow dog’ that voluntarily chooses to spend every waking moment outside, enjoys breakfast on a bed of fresh snow, and has always just wanted to be one with the snow.
“Here is the saddest but cutest thing you’ve ever seen. He didn’t have his winter coat last season to keep him warm, and he just wanted to be inside just like us weak humans,” reads layover text in the clip.
The poster wrote in the caption that Boomer lost his thick winter coat last year, after doctors shaved him for multiple procedures, and since then, he has been cold all of the time, despite winter being his favorite season.
The caption adds: “It was so funny he clearly wanted to just sit inside the car when we were watching the Northern Lights so that’s what he did that night lol [laugh out loud].
“Happy he has his winter coat mostly back on this year (a little light because of his chemo but at least he’s not got a nakey belbel). Can’t wait to have a winter full of the COLDEST adventures together!!!”
The pup’s owner, Charishma Cohen, from Oregon, told Newsweek that Boomer has been constantly in and out of emergency care since September 2024, and doing lots of diagnostics. He also underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor.
Cohen said: “Because he didn’t have his thick undercoat last winter, his body got cold much faster and he was shivering. Hopefully with his coat being back this winter, he’ll be able to enjoy the snow again!
“Boomer unfortunately got diagnosed with terminal cancer this August; he’s currently undergoing treatment for it, but he hasn’t slowed down or shown any changes at all so we are hoping to make this his best winter yet!”
The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 525,000 views and more than 33,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Prettimixedchic, commented: “What a sweet snow bear. I know he cannot wait for some winter fun. He can have all the snow his little heart desires.”
Laura_vano81 said: “So happy he’ll be able to enjoy one of his favorite things!! That had to be hard on him last year!”
Practicalserendipity added: “Poor baby. Hope he gets his full coat back in time for this winter.”
