Sam Hunt is set to add one more to his family’s roster.

The 39-year-old country star spilled the beans on Audacy’s Katie & Company podcast that he and his wife Hannah Lee Fowler are expecting their third child — a baby due in May. “It’s about to get real,” Hunt quipped on Tuesday, November 19. “I’m elated, I can’t wait!”

While their 2-year-old daughter Lucy is still grappling with the concept — insisting, “No, I have a baby on the way,” when they point to 39-year-old Fowler’s belly — the “Body Like a Back Road” singer is juggling the joys of pending fatherhood with a music career that’s hitting new highs.

However, he’s clear about one thing: touring is taking a backseat. “I’m hopefully, you know, in the next couple years going to take a break from touring,” he shared. “The crowds have been so great and I want to get out there and tour while my kids are really young and they’re able to come with me, they’re not in school yet, I’m not going to miss too much at home.”

He continued, “And while people are interested in coming to see us, I want to get out there and play, I don’t want to take that for granted.”

The couple’s growing family comes after years of ups and downs in their relationship. Hunt and Fowler’s love story began in their early 20s, but after several years of dating, they split when Hunt moved to Nashville to pursue music. Unable to forget her, Hunt famously made several trips to Hawaii to win her back. “The seventh trip I convinced her,” he told Entertainment Tonight in 2017. They reconciled, got engaged in 2017, and tied the knot later that year.

However, their marriage hasn’t been without challenges. In 2019, Hunt faced legal troubles when he was arrested in Nashville for driving under the influence. The Georgia native, who was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road, later admitted to drinking before getting behind the wheel. With a blood-alcohol level of .173 — more than twice the legal limit — Hunt was taken into custody and quickly apologized for the incident. “It was a poor and selfish decision, and I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) at the time. “It won’t happen again.”

Despite the turbulence, the pair worked through their issues and moved forward together — that is until February 2022 when Fowler filed for divorce, citing “inappropriate marital conduct” and “adultery,” just as she announced she was pregnant with their first child. By May, they had called off the divorce and welcomed their daughter Lucy shortly after.

Hunt has since embraced fatherhood, calling it a life-changing experience. “[Fatherhood] has given me such a sense of purpose — at home and out on the road. A new appreciation for life in general,” he said on Katie & Company in 2022. “I think I leveled up overnight, evolved 10 or 20 years overnight.”

Fast forward to October 2023, and their son Lowry was born. Hunt shared the news on Instagram with a heartfelt caption: “Thank You Lord.”

While their relationship has faced its share of hurdles, Hunt says they’ve found their rhythm. “One beautiful thing about Hannah is she forgives quickly,” he joked when Taste of Country asked if he’d spent many cold nights on the couch. “And I also have a rule that I’m not sleeping on the couch. She’s gonna shoot me before I don’t sleep in my own bed.”
