It’s only a matter of time before the Miami Marlins trade their ace, Sandy Alcántara. The righty is returning from Tommy John surgery in 2023 and has looked brilliant since returning to the bump.
Potential trade suitors for the 2022 National League Cy Young winner include the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Yankees.
FanSided’s Jacob Mountz predicted that it would be the Red Sox who would win the Alcántara sweepstakes this season. Boston is the most popular trade partner among Alcántara rumors.

“The 2022 Cy Young award winner put on a heck of a show this spring, throwing 12.1 innings and giving up no earned runs,” Mountz wrote. “His last regular season appearance came in 2023 when he struggled with a 4.14 ERA. His season came to an end when his elbow injury required Tommy John (surgery).
“Now, after missing the entire 2024 season, he is back, and it appears he is ready to dominate. Even though we can’t expect Alcantara to pitch 200 innings again so soon after Tommy John Surgery, adding Alcantara would give the Red Sox a clear ace with years of control.”
The Red Sox have more big league hitters than they know what to do with. This has caused a promising young player like Wilyer Abreu to find himself in trade rumors despite putting together a very productive Gold Glove season last year.
With top prospect Roman Anthony banging on the door of the big leagues, the Red Sox can afford to trade Abreu for Alcántara. Alongside Abreu, the Red Sox could package together a few other top prospects to land the righty.
