Rachel Zegler Issues Foulmouthed Tirade Against Donald Trump

Actor Rachel Zegler has offered her unfiltered thoughts on President-elect Donald Trump, taking to Instagram to criticize the Republican following his electoral victory.

Zegler, who rose to fame in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake, is starring in Romeo + Juliet on Broadway and has frequently been the target of social media users critical of her opinions.

On Wednesday, a user on X, formerly Twitter, posted screenshots of Zegler’s comments about Trump, which the actor wrote in Instagram stories. A story is designed to be deleted after 24 hours, so the posts are no longer available on Zegler’s account.

According to the screenshots, Zegler made the posts during the intermission of her show shortly after Trump’s win, writing, “May trump supporters and trump voters and trump himself never know peace.” Newsweek has contacted a spokesperson for Zegler by email for comment.

“I find myself speechless in the midst of this. another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world i do not want to live in,” Zegler wrote.

She continued: “I shouldn’t be this shocked. but i am. i am heartbroken for my friends who awoke [in] fear this morning. and i am here with you. to cry, to yell, to hug. to wax poetic on how the left continues to fail us in forging a new path forward. this loss should not have been. and it certainly should not have been by so many votes.”

In a follow-up post, Zegler said there was a “deep, deep sickness” in the United States, considering how many people voted for a “man who threatens our democracy.”

She added: “It is terrifying the number of people who stand behind what this man preaches. it is a foolish subscription to a false sense of security, of masculinity, of intelligence, of patriotism, and of humanity. there is no help, no counsel, in any of them. i could go on. i won’t. i feel sad. you probably do, too. f*** this.”

Zegler also encouraged readers to stop using X, the social media platform owned by billionaire Elon Musk. Leading up to the election, the tech mogul campaigned for Trump, and on Wednesday, the president-elect named Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy as leaders of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency.

“I don’t use that app for a reason. he helped get that man elected and you’re giving him business,” Zegler wrote. In another post, she said she was going onstage for the second act of Romeo + Juliet and needed to “get off my soapbox before i get too heated.”

She concluded the post: “Sending love to everyone who needs it today. may we all carry each other through the worst and hold these politicians accountable. your dem govs just got very important! they already were but hey! follow your governors! hold them accountable. local government is where we will make real change. this is not the end. ever.

“I will love through these four years as best i can. f*** donald trump.”
