Blue Ridge Beef is recalling more than 2,400 pounds of their puppy and kitten mixes on Friday due to fears of salmonella and listeria contamination.
Newsweek reached out to Blue Ridge Beef via email for comment on Friday.
Why It Matters
Numerous recalls have been initiated this year due to potentially damaged products, foodborne illness, undeclared food allergens or the potential for bacteria.
Millions of Americans experience food sensitivities or food allergies every year. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the nine “major” food allergens in the United States are eggs, milk, fish, wheat, soybeans, crustacean shellfish, sesame, tree nuts and peanuts.
Listeria and salmonella can be harmful to pets, and even to people handling the contaminated products. Exposure could lead to vomiting, fever and abdominal cramping in people. Pets may appear lethargic, exhibit loss of appetite, vomit or have diarrhea.
The FDA urges people to contact a health care provider if they or their pets exhibit symptoms.
What To Know
The recalled pet foods were sold in 2-pound bags and 1,380 pounds of the Blue Ridge Beef Puppy Mix is being recalled, with a lot number of N25 1230, the FDA says, along with 1,080 pounds of the Blue Ridge Beef Kitten Mix, with a lot number of N26 0114.
The lot numbers can be found stamped into the clips on the end of the bags, the alert notes.
The product was distributed and sold in retail stores from January 3, 2025, to January 24, 2025. The FDA says the recalled pet food was packaged in clear plastic and its alert displays pictures of the recalled products.
Below is a U.S. map highlighting the states affected by the warning:
What People Are Saying
