The Kansas City Chiefs are treading in unfamiliar territory through their first 10 games of the season after dropping their Week 11 matchup to the Denver Broncos.
Currently sitting at 5-5 overall and third in the AFC West, if the season ended today, the Chiefs would miss the playoffs — something that hasn’t happened during the Patrick Mahomes era at quarterback.
Still, they have another massive opportunity this week: a showdown with another top AFC team, the Indianapolis Colts, on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST at Arrowhead Stadium. And there’s an historic milestone on the horizon for Mahomes.
Interestingly outside of his own team, Mahomes has already defeated 30 of the 31 NFL teams in his career during the regular season. The one team he’s yet to beat? The Colts.
According to CBS Sports’ Doug Clawson, if Mahomes and the Chiefs can topple the Colts this weekend, he would join NFL legend Tom Brady as one of only two QBs at age 30 or younger to record victories against every NFL team, excluding their own (the Chiefs for Mahomes, the Patriots for Brady).

Patrick Mahomes is 0-2 against the Colts in his head-to-head regular-season matchups, with the two meetings coming in 2019 and 2022. He threw just one touchdown in each game, averaged just over 290 passing yards, and completed 56.8% of his passes.
The Chiefs have little margin for error across their final seven games of the regular season. They sit firmly behind both the Denver Broncos in the AFC West and still trail the Los Angeles Chargers, having already lost to both teams.
However, their remaining schedule presents opportunities to string together victories. They still have three divisional games against each AFC West opponent, and following Sunday’s showdown with the Colts, they will face the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans. They also meet the league-worst Tennessee Titans in Week 16.
