North Korea has admitted damage to a second naval destroyer in a botched launch to water, an embarrassment for leader Kim Jong Un, who oversaw the failure and scolded the officials responsible, according to state media.
“A serious accident occurred in the course of the launch of the destroyer,” a report by KCNA said, blaming “inexperienced command and operational carelessness” for the incident at Chongjin’s Hambuk shipyard.
Kim made a “stern assessment, saying that it was a serious accident and criminal act caused by sheer carelessness, irresponsibility and unscientific empiricism which should never occur and could not be tolerated,” the report said.
It is another blow for Kim as he tries to modernize North Korea’s navy.
This is a developing story and more information will be added soon.
