The Nolan Arenado to the New York Yankees saga continues into the month of May.
Arenado has been linked to the Bronx Bombers since the early stages of the offseason. As of now, a deal has not been close to going through.
While the Yankees haven’t directly stated they don’t have interest in the 10-time Gold Glover, MLB insider Jon Heyman reported Tuesday the team hasn’t shown any interest so far.

“Right now you’ve got (Oswaldo) Cabrera, you’ve got (Oswald) Peraza playing some third,” said Heyman on “Bleacher Report Live.” “They’ve done OK there. To me, Arenado would be a fit there. As I’ve said all along, the Yankees have shown no interest in Arenado to this point.”
Through his first 125 at-bats, Arenado is hitting .256 with three home runs and 14 RBI. Defensively, he has posted three outs above average and three defensive runs saved so far this season.
Arenado may not have a season like he did in 2022, but he’s on pace to perform better than he did last season or in 2023. However, the Yankees still aren’t biting.
“I think that’s not really about Arenado, I think that’s about the money,” said Heyman.
Heyman later added on social media that he believes the Yankees only want to spend money on pitching to help address the issues with the rotation.
If that is the direction the Yankees go and only pursue adding pitching as far as external moves, it’s a decision that would be a strong gamble given the production to this point from Cabrera and Peraza.
