The Los Angeles Angels announced that manager Ron Washington would be stepping away indefinitely on June 20 before later announcing that the skipper would miss the remainder of the MLB season on Friday. Angels superstar Mike Trout spoke to Doug Padilla of the Orange County Register about Washington and offered kind words about his skipper.

“This is bigger than baseball,” Trout said. “He’s got to go out there and get things right. And everybody in this clubhouse is praying for him and thinking about him.”
Washington has been around Major League Baseball since he debuted in 1977 with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a player. Washington is baseball’s oldest active manager at 73 and is beloved by his players and has the entirety of baseball behind him as he battles health concerns.
The Angels are battling to stay in contention and would love to have their skipper in the dugout with them as they fight for playoff position.
“It’s more than just baseball when you hear the news,” said catcher Logan O’Hoppe. “We just hope he’s healthy and getting better. I hope this isn’t taken the wrong way, but we don’t care about any of the baseball side of it right now. We hope he’s all right and gets the help he needs. But he’s the main reason why everything has been the way it has been around here this year so far. It’s something we’re going to keep replicating.”
Washington has been a big part of the Angels in the last two seasons, and the team has his back just the same as he has theirs.
