Mick Schumacher Spotted in F1 Miami Paddock Sparking Cadillac Speculation

Former Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher has been spotted in the paddock of the 2025 Miami Grand Prix. As you’d imagine, this has once again sparked speculation surrounding the driver and his potential connection to the Cadillac F1 team, who have an event later today as they ready themselves for a 2026 F1 entry.

The German driver, who currently competes in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine, was seen walking through the paddock alongside Haas driver Esteban Ocon, and has drawn plenty of attention thanks to the American team also attending the weekend.

“Hope Cadillac gives @SchumacherMick a shot!” one fan commented. A second added: “Cadillac 2026. Checo and Mick.”

A third also commented: “Mick Schumacher 🏎 Cadillac 2026.”

Earlier this year it was confirmed that Cadillac would indeed be joining F1 as the 11th team on the grid, with backing by General Motors. In an event later today, Newsweek understands the outfit will be revealing its brand, which many are taking to believe could include the livery it will use next year.

It could also include further details on their driver lineup, although this is highly unlikely.

Schumacher has been pushing to re-enter the sport since he left the Haas F1 team at the end of 2022. The driver’s career lasted a difficult two seasons.

In 2023, Schumacher joined Mercedes as a reserve driver under the guiding eyes of Toto Wolff and joined Alpine’s Hypercar program in the WEC for 2024. He recently took home his second podium at the 6 Hours of Imola, proving that racing runs in his blood, despite his poor performance in F1.

When Valtteri Bottas replaced Schumacher at Mercedes this year, it allowed Schumacher to open his eyes to the future.

“I am grateful to Toto and the entire Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team for the knowledge I have acquired over these two years,” he said on leaving the Brackley outfit.

“They have certainly made me a more experienced racing driver because I have gotten to know the engineering side better. But watching these cars race without being in the cockpit is tough. I want to focus 100% on racing again.

“I want to fully dedicate myself to the sporting side of motorsport. Ultimately, what you want to do as a driver is racing, which gives you that feeling that you love so much”.

Former F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone backed the German.

“If Michael had been by his side, Mick would be a regular driver in Formula 1 today.

“What speaks for him, the name Schumacher has even more charisma in the USA than in Europe. Formula 1 could continue to use this name,” he told F1 Insider, via PlanetF1.

“I hope it’s not too late for Mick. In Formula 1, it’s easy to forget if you’ve been away for too long. But Mick would still have what it takes.

“With proper preparation, he would be a good choice for Cadillac.”

Fans are clearly questioning Schumacher’s attendance of the Miami Grand Prix weekend, especially after comments like this from the driver:

“Everything is an option at this stage. I think I have what it takes for F1. The year is still long, and the goal is to return in 2026.”
