LSU, Lane Kiffin Poaching Key Member of Ole Miss’ Remaining Staff

Things between Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin keep taking some pretty strange turns.

On Tuesday afternoon, it was revealed that Kiffin signed off on new LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weiss Jr. returning to Ole Miss to coach the team’s offense during its College Football Playoff run.

Then hours later, the two schools engaged in some back-and-forth recruiting poaching as LSU stole two 2026 pledges from Ole Miss, which, in turn, flipped a three-star wide receiver from LSU.

The rivalry between the two schools has escalated in the days since Kiffin jumped ship, and it’s only going to get more fierce after a new report from FootballScoop, which claims Kiffin is adding a new recruiting staffer to his new team, and he happens to be a key piece for Ole Miss.

“Sources tell FootballScoop that Dwike Wilson, who’s been the Ole Miss Senior Executive Director of Recruiting, will reunite with Kiffin on the bayou with the LSU Tigers,” John Brice wrote.

“It’s no coincidence that Ole Miss, and Kiffin in a statement, is sharing the news in the hours before the 13-member College Football Playoff Selection Committee hosts its weekly meeting tonight at the Gaylord Hotel in Grapevine, Texas.”

LSU currently has the No. 12 recruiting class in the country, though it took two big hits on Tuesday with four-star WR Kenny Darby decommiting and three-star WR Kervin Johnson Jr. flipping to Ole Miss.

It’s also believed Kiffin plans to convince “every on-field offensive assistant” from Ole Miss with him to LSU, excluding offensive line coach John Garrison, who’s already committed to staying.

Kiffin already poached Ole Miss general manager Billy Glasscock, and senior passing game analyst Dane Stevens is expected to join LSU as a quarterbacks coach, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
