Internet Obsessed With ‘Unbothered’ Dog Who Plays Dead Instead of Walking

Dog refusing to walk

The internet can’t get enough of a hilarious video showing a man trying (and failing) to walk his very lazy dog who simply had enough.

Many dog owners know exactly how difficult it is to walk a pup who just isn’t interested, but one man’s disastrous attempts have taken social media by storm. TikTok user @big_sis_27 shared a hilarious video on March 20 showing a man struggling to walk his very “unbothered” dog.

Rather than walking along happily and exploring all the sights of Brooklyn, New York, this dog opted to lay down on the sidewalk instead and take a well-earned rest. As the owner tried to pull the dog back up and get him moving again, the dog wasn’t having any of it and continued playing dead.

While the dog’s owner may not have been too impressed, social media users are obsessed with this pup’s antics. The video has gone viral since it was shared on TikTok, leading to more than 159,300 views and over 31,400 likes at the time of writing.

Newsweek has contacted @big_sis_27 via TikTok for comment.

Alongside the amusing video, the caption jokes: “We’re this unbothered 2025.”

At one point, the dog’s owner even dropped the leash and walked away. His hope was probably for the dog to realize he’d given up and to chase after his owner, but that didn’t happen either. The pup was completely unfazed by his owner’s attempts and just lay on his back the whole time.

While it’s easy to assume that dogs must love going for walks, that isn’t always the case and some pups need to learn to love the outdoors first. The American Kennel Club (AKC) suggests that walks should be made to feel fun and exciting for dogs, and a chance for them to sniff and explore.

Owners can help encourage this by not rushing their bathroom behavior or pulling on the leash, because that won’t reinforce positive emotions about walking.

For stubborn pups who just don’t want to walk, owners can try driving to a new location and walking them back home, socializing them in new areas that might help them to explore, or even getting their favorite person to stand nearby so they have something to walk towards.

The AKC notes that it’s also helpful to give them a high value treat that they only get on dog walks, as this will make them more tempted to stretch their four legs.

The Online Reaction

The viral video has captured plenty of attention in just a matter of days, leading to more than 300 comments on TikTok already. Needless to say, many of the commenters lauded the dog’s behavior and could easily relate to it.

One comment reads: “it’s like when a toddler tantrum is happening haha.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “That dog is so loved he didn’t believe for a second that man was going anywhere without him.”

Another person replied: “I want to know if people record me and my dog like this.”

While one internet user joked: “We’ve all tried the walk away thinking they’ll get up and run to us, but they never do.”
