Mauricio Pochettino has visions of bringing the curtain down on an encouraging international window for the United States, which is targeting its third straight win when it hosts Uruguay on Tuesday. Both teams are due to feature at the 2026 World Cup and face off in one final friendly in the hopes of seeing out this year’s international calendar in positive fashion.
The Stars and Stripes are on a high after recently defeating another South American outfit, Paraguay, 2-1 in a separate friendly on Saturday. Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Gio Reyna had a particularly promising surge of form against the Paraguayans as he opened the scoring before having a big hand in Folarin Balogun’s eventual decider.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men promise to present a step up in competition, however, and are undefeated in six outings (including friendlies), having managed to keep a clean sheet in all but one of those. Los Celeste are currently without injured stars Darwin Nunez and Federico Valverde, with the national team on the lookout for new heroes to arise in attack.
