Tennessee returns to Southeastern Conference play after blowing out visiting New Mexico State 42-9 last week. The Volunteers, at 3-3 in the SEC, have no path to the conference championship game entering the final two weeks of the season. Tennessee got touchdowns on the ground from Desean Bishop, Peyton Lewis, Joey Aguilar, and Star Thomas against the Aggies, while Aguilar finished 17-of-23 for 204 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. Bishop had 80 yards on 16 carries, and Braylon Staley caught a scoring pass. William Wright and Ty Redmond had interceptions in the victory.
Florida fell to 0-3 under interim coach Billy Gonzales as it was unable to hold a 24-20 halftime lead last week in its 34-24 loss at then-No. 7 Ole Miss. DJ Lagway threw for 218 yards with a touchdown and an interception and also ran for a score, while Jadan Baugh picked up 61 yards and a TD on 15 carries. J. Michael Sturdivant hauled in a 57-yard touchdown pass. Jaden Robinson recorded 1.5 of the defense’s five sacks, and Jayden Woods picked off a pass.
In a rivalry once known as the Third Saturday in September, Florida holds a 32-22 all-time edge while Tennessee picked up a 23-17 overtime win at home on Oct. 12, 2024.
