
The first round of the NCAA College Wrestling Championship will get underway on Thursday. All 330 NCAA wrestling championship qualifiers learned their seed last week and now all take the mat in Philadelphia to compete against one another under the bright lights of the Wells Fargo Arena, the home of the 76ers and Flyers.

The 125-pound contenders are led by No. 1 seed Luke Lilledahl and No. 2 seed Matt Ramos, while No. 27 seed Tristan Daughtery remains a sleeper. The 133-pound contenders are led by No. 1 seed Lucas Byrd and No. 2 seed Drake Ayala, while No. 26 seed Kai Orine could remain a contender. The 141-pound contenders are No. 1 seed Brock Hardy and No. 2 seed Beau Bartlett. It’s a division that is definitely up for grabs, so don’t be surprised if No. 14 seed Sergio Lemley wins.
The 149-pound weight class is led by No. 1 seed Caleb Henson, followed by Ridge Lovett and Shayne Van Ness at the No. 2 and 3 seeds. However, don’t forget about No. 11 Sammy Alvarez, who is an All-American. The 157-pound weight class consists of No. 1 seed Tyler Kasak and No. 2 seed Meyer Shapiro, among others.
No. 1 seed Mitchell Mesenbrink leads the 165-pound weight class, while Keegan O’Toole leads the 174-pound class. Carter Starocci also leads the 184-pound weight class, while Jacob Cardenas leads the 197-pound class. In the big boy weight class, Gable Steveson leads the 285-pound class.
The second round begins Thursday night.
