Duke comes off a 34-17 home loss to No. 19 Virginia, which dropped it to 4-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Blue Devils trailed by as much as 31-3 before getting a couple of late touchdowns. Darian Mensah threw for 213 yards and a score while Tre Freeman returned a pick 18 yards for a TD. Duke never got a ground attack going, finishing with just 42 yards on 23 attempts. Cooper Barkate caught a touchdown pass in the loss.
North Carolina never led while falling to 2-4 in the ACC last week with a 28-12 loss at Wake Forest. The Tar Heels were limited to four Rece Verhoff field goals, including a 57-yarder, while getting held out of the end zone. Gio Lopez threw for 201 yards while the ground attack got only 56 yards on 24 carries. Gavin Gibson logged a forced fumble and a recovery in the loss.
The Blue Devils snapped a five-game losing streak in the rivalry with a 21-20 win at home on Sept. 28, 2024, and haven’t won at Chapel Hill since 2017. North Carolina leads the all-time series 65-39-4.
