Marvel is no stranger to crossovers, but it’s not often that crossover comics come into play in such a big way — literally. The fan-favorite company has announced that a new crossover series is in the works, which not only features some of the biggest Marvel superheroes, but they will be fighting for their lives against the world’s most dangerous Kaiju.

Toho is partnering with Marvel to bring in a brand-new series that will pit Godzilla against all the greatest superheroes.

The cover art for “Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe” has been shared by Discussing Film, which showcases a very angered-looking Godzilla. Not only that, but the world’s greatest Kaiju is also seemingly set to fight the likes of Spider-Man, Thor, Captain America, Human Torch, Storm, The Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and many more.

According to a press release from Marvel, “Thanks to an exciting partnership between Marvel Comics and Toho International, the Japanese studio’s U.S.-based subsidiary that has brought global sensation Godzilla to life, Godzilla made its roaring return to the Marvel Universe earlier this year! Following a series of history-spanning one-shots where Godzilla battled various Marvel heroes, the epic showdown fans have been waiting for arrives this July in GODZILLA DESTROYS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE.”

The release also states the limited five-issue series will be written by writer Gerry Duggan and drawn by acclaimed artist Javier Garrón.

Toho reacted to the epic crossover, stating:

“Godzilla has always been a relentless force of nature, and battling the icons of the Marvel Universe is the perfect way to celebrate 70 years of the King of Monsters,” said Kristin Parcell, General Manager of Toho International. “Our continued collaboration with Marvel, bringing Godzilla into the vast Marvel Universe, guarantees an unmatched, electrifying experience for fans of both legendary franchises.”

Duggan also provided excitement for being able to write the new series:

“Godzilla was as important to me as Marvel Comics growing up,” Duggan shared. “My father enjoyed watching baseball on TV, and I would root for rain outs so the NYC stations would run a Godzilla movie. When I discovered that Godzilla had appeared in the Marvel Universe, I obsessively collected every issue. I can’t believe how lucky I am to be contributing to the tradition of Godzilla rampaging in the Marvel Universe.”

Duggan is one of the most prolific writers, having Marvel writing credits for “Deadpool,” “Westcoast Avengers,” “Venomverse Reborn,” and so much more.

The first of the five comics will be on sale on July 16.
