The Florida State Seminoles are 4-5 on the season following Saturday’s 24-10 loss to the Clemson Tigers, furthering yet another disappointing campaign for head coach Mike Norvell.
Since going undefeated through the regular season and winning an ACC Championship title in 2023, Norvell and the Seminoles have a 6-15 overall record and a 2-12 record in conference play.
Florida State opened its 2025 college football season with an upset victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide, signaling what many thought could be a resurgence for Norvell’s program. But with five losses over the last six games, the calls for his job are gaining some serious steam around the Seminoles’ fanbase.
Norvell responded to these critics on Monday, promising another championship under his regime in an impassioned, six-minute rant.

“I’m fully aware the outside narrative around our team is not good, around me is probably not good. That’s fine,” Norvell said, via ESPN. “That will not affect the job that I’m going to show up and do. I’m going to pour everything I have to this team with a championship expectation.
“I’ve actually won a championship, and we’re going to do it again. We’re going to do it here. That might piss people off. So be it. They’ll be celebrating when we’re hoisting a trophy, and it will be the belief that I see from our players, the belief that I see from our coaches, the talent that I know that our players have, and the guys that are coming to be a part of this.”
After the Seminoles’ 20-13 loss to Stanford on Oct. 18, Florida State athletic director Michael Alford announced that Norvell will remain the program’s head coach through the remainder of the 2025 season. But, the school also announced its plans to conduct a “comprehensive assessment” of the football program’s leadership before the Seminoles’ 2026 campaign.

“I’ve got elite level confidence for what’s ahead of us,” Norvell continued. “I know not everybody wants to hear that. I don’t care. I know what it’s going to be, and I’m grateful for the opportunity that I have. Also understand that has not been good enough, right? And the results, they matter, right? But we’re going to take that step, and we’re going to get the job done.”
Norvell and the Seminoles will look to get their season back on track in a matchup against Virginia Tech on Saturday.
