Former NFL Player Blasts Vikings for ‘Wasting’ Justin Jefferson’s Prime

The Minnesota Vikings haven’t had the season they’ve been looking for, and a lot of that has to do with the quarterback play.

J.J. McCarthy, the second-year quarterback who was drafted in the first round last year and was injured for his rookie campaign, as well as veteran Carson Wentz, who is also dealing with an injury.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Vikings do moving forward, but McCarthy might not be the player they were looking for, and some believe that’s a problem for players like Justin Jefferson.

That includes former NFL player Bart Scott, who went so far as to say that the Vikings are ruining his prime.

“I think they’re wasting Justin Jefferson’s prime,” Scott said on “Get Up.” “Listen, they took a big gamble by going with a first-year starter with all the things that they pushed. They pushed all their chips into the middle of the table when they made all these acquisitions—improving the offensive line, going out and getting defensive line help—and then to put it all in the hands of a rookie QB.

“Nobody came into this season with more pressure than J.J. McCarthy because we know what we got from Sam Darnold. I agree with that. The fact that they let Sam Darnold go, let [Daniel Jones] go, and said, ‘That’s who we’re going to go with,‘ that is more pressure than anybody in the NFL.”

Not only has Jefferson consistently impressed every year since entering the NFL, but it seems apparent that he wants to win at the highest level.

At the moment, the Vikings aren’t exactly offering them that, and he can undoubtedly be frustrated with the team’s decision to move on from Sam Darnold last year.

Had the Vikings decided to keep Darnold, they’d likely be in a much better spot than they’re currently in.
