A man and two children were found with non-life-threatening injuries Monday near the wreckage of a small plane on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula, after the aircraft was reported overdue the previous night, authorities said.
The pilot and two juveniles were taken to a hospital after the plane was located Monday morning near the east side of Tustumena Lake, according to Alaska State Troopers. The three are immediate family members, troopers’ spokesperson Austin McDaniel confirmed to the Associated Press via email.
Troopers had received a report late Sunday that a Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser was overdue, with suspected locations including Tustumena Lake and the Kenai Mountains, east of Homer. The 60,000-acre lake is known for its sudden, hazardous winds, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
Homer, located on the Kenai Peninsula, sits roughly 220 miles southwest of Anchorage.
