That’ll be a career for former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks.
Heading into his second season with the Cleveland Browns, Hicks has decided to announce his retirement just as training camp gets started.
The former Eagle wraps up a decade-long run in the NFL. He announced his retirement officially on Instagram, with a lengthy statement.
“After 23 years of playing football, I’m officially retiring from the NFL,” Hicks wrote.
“Football has given me more than I could have ever imagined. Purpose, discipline, brotherhood, and a platform to impact others. But most importantly, it showed me who I am outside the game. I leave this chapter with deep gratitude for every lesson, challenge, and victory. I’m proud of what I accomplished on the field, but even more proud of the man I’ve become because of it.”
The 33-year-old entered the NFL back in 2015 after spending four years at the University of Texas. Hicks was a third-round pick for the Eagles after he registered 248 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and two interceptions in the NCAA.
Although he’s bounced around the NFL since landing in the pros, Hicks’ longest tenure was with the Eagles. Throughout the first four years of his career, Hicks played in 43 games with the Eagles, starting in all but three of those appearances.
During his time in Philly, Hicks produced 254 tackles, 14 quarterback hits, six fumble recoveries, 19 pass deflections, seven interceptions, and a pick-six. He was a key member of the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2017 before he went down with a season-ending setback.

For Hicks, injuries affected his tenure in Philadelphia. He managed to play a full season just once.
In 2019, Hicks hit the free agency market, where he signed with the Arizona Cardinals on a four-year contract. He ended up playing in Arizona for three seasons. With better health, Hicks played in 49 games with the Cardinals during that time. He had over 380 tackles and collected 5.5 sacks. He also had 15 pass deflections and four interceptions.
Following his third season with the Cardinals, Hicks was released by Arizona. He followed that move by signing a two-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings. After spending two seasons with the Vikings, Hicks joined the Cleveland Browns for the 2024 season. He appeared in 12 games last season as he dealt with multiple setbacks throughout the year.
“I walk away with peace knowing I gave football all I had, and that the best is yet to come,” the linebacker concluded.
With 10 years in the bag, Hicks walks away from the game with 952 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 13 interceptions, and 11 fumble recoveries. He is a one-time Super Bowl Champion.
