The president of the American Federation of Teachers union has resigned from her post in the Democratic National Committee.
Randi Weingarten told DNC chair Ken Martin, in a letter obtained by several news outlets, that she was declining the offer to be reappointed as an at-large member of the committee, a role she has held since 2002.
“I appear to be out of step with the leadership you are forging,” she wrote in the letter, according to Reuters. “I do not want to be the one who keeps questioning why we are not enlarging our tent and actively trying to engage more and more of our community.”
The news comes days after David Hogg announced he would not run in redo elections held over the weekend after he was removed from his post as vice chair following a firestorm over his push to fund primary challenges against long-serving Democrats in safe congressional seats.
