Free agent pitcher Keegan Thompson and the Cincinnati Reds agreed on a one-year contract for 2026 on Tuesday — less than a month after the right-hander elected free agency rather than return to the Chicago Cubs organization.
Thompson, 30, spent the entire 2025 season with the Cubs’ Triple-A Iowa affiliate after he was designated for assignment in March.
Now he’ll get a fresh start with the Cubs’ National League Central rivals. The Reds snuck into the postseason as the final NL Wild Card team.
