The Cleveland Browns have a four-man quarterback competition brewing in training camp. Among those four quarterbacks are Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel.
Early on in training camp, Pickett suffered an injury that set him back in the competition. Flacco has been viewed as the most likely Week 1 starter, with Pickett as his primary competition.
With Pickett’s injury, the likelihood of Flacco opening the season as the starter has grown.

According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Sanders has been dealing with shoulder soreness.
“Browns QB Shedeur Sanders is being held out of team drills today due to what the team is calling shoulder soreness,” Schefter wrote on X.
Sanders has been one of the biggest storylines in football since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He was widely expected to be a first or second round pick. No one saw him dropping as far as he did.
Despite being a fifth round pick and suffering one of the most surprising slides in NFL Draft history, Sanders has remained upbeat. He is simply focused on proving himself and working his way onto the field during his rookie season.
Hopefully, this isn’t an injury that forces him to miss any time. Every single rep is valuable for a rookie trying to win the starting job throughout his first year.
During his college career, Sanders put up elite numbers. He played in two seasons with Jackson State and the finished his final two years with the Colorado Buffaloes.

Throughout his four college seasons, Sanders threw for 14,347 yards, 134 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions, while completing 70.1 percent of his pass attempts.
Only time will tell what Sanders’ rookie season with the Browns will look like. He has a lot of work to do to get on the field. However, he has a lot of hype surrounding him and has a lot of fan and teammate support already.
It will also be interesting to see how this shoulder soreness impacts Sanders during training camp and preseason action.
