The New York Jets signed quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract. The deal caught the attention of New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave, who took to social media to voice his opinion on the signing.

Olave did not use any words but simply wrote three fire emojis in a post on X to express his approval. The social media post sent both Jets and Saints fans into a frenzy.

Olave and Fields were teammates at Ohio State for two seasons and developed a strong friendship with one another. In New York, Fields will get to reunite with former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson.

The Saints star once praised Fields’ leadership as a player and person in their final year together in college.

“He’s a warrior,” Olave said. “I mean, that’s a guy you always want on your team. He’s a leader on and off the field. And people look up to him. And the season he had this year, the growth he had from last year, it’s huge. And I’ve got all love and all respect for him. Can’t wait to see him do big things.”

Now, Fields is set to lead the Jets next season following the disastrous tenure of Aaron Rodgers in New York. The quarterback is the biggest free agent to sign with New York under the new regime of head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey.

As for Olave, the wideout was recently listed as a possible trade candidate with his injury history being cited as a reason for the Saints moving on. Additionally, Olave is eligible for a contract extension this offseason.

Therefore, Olave’s future with New Orleans has been called into question.

The Saints have until May to pick up Olave’s fifth-year option. The franchise tag could be an option, but it would be more expensive than the wideout’s fifth-year option.

And so, Olave could be on the trade block and has already been linked to teams such as the Houston Texans. The Texans actually make a lot of sense since the Houston front office is hoping to bring in reinforcements for quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Anything can happen in the NFL, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the Saints end up trading Olave for a sufficient return package.
