The Boston Red Sox are one of the more intriguing teams in baseball. They’ve had their fair share of ups and downs this year, but as the trade deadline closes in, the Red Sox are riding high.
With that in mind, it’s much more likely the Red Sox will find themselves as buyers at the trade deadline rather than sellers as once believed.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter recently listed the Red Sox as the “best landing spot” in a trade that would bring struggling ace Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks to Boston.

“One of the best starters in baseball the past several seasons, Gallen has struggled this year with a 5.40 ERA and 4.80 FIP in 115 innings, though he has turned in quality starts in two of his last three outings,” Reuter wrote. “With Brayan Bello and Lucas Giolito both pitching behind ace Garrett Crochet during the Red Sox’s recent run of success, they might be the perfect team to roll the dice on Gallen returning to his frontline form in the second half.”
The Red Sox haven’t had the best pitching depth all season, but as the year goes on, a pressing need like this is only going to get worse.
Garrett Crochet can go toe to toe with the best pitchers in the league, but Boston needs the depth behind him.
Adding Gallen behind him would be quite a risk, but it could pay off in a huge way. The Diamondbacks righty has struggled a bit this year, but he’s beginning to look like his old self again.
If the Red Sox can avoid paying a king’s ransom for him, a trade would make perfect sense for the team.
