Blue Jays Pitched As Pete Alonso Fit By ESPN Insider

There have been two big-time bats consistently linked to the Toronto Blue Jays this offseason: Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker.

Toronto has money to spend and its championship window is wide open after pushing the Los Angeles Dodgers to seven games in the World Series. How the Blue Jays handle this offseason will determine whether or not they can maintain the momentum in 2026. The Blue Jays don’t have the luxury of just running it back because of the fact that Bichette is a free agent. What if he leaves? Plus, the Blue Jays need pitching with Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt available in free agency.

We’re at a point in the offseason in which players are pitched as potential fits left and right. Most of the speculation is just noise. But, there are things to keep an eye on. For example, ESPN’s Jorge Castillo floated seven options for New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso, and the Blue Jays were on his list.

“This fit isn’t clean, but the Blue Jays could lose the right-handed-hitting Bo Bichette in free agency this winter and Alonso could serve as a replacement,” Castillo wrote. “The Blue Jays expressed interest in Alonso last winter, but that was when (Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s) future was very uncertain. We’re not even going to bother listing first base as a possibility for Alonso in Toronto because that’s Guerrero’s job for a very long time. (George Springer) enjoyed a resurgent season primarily as Toronto’s DH, so he would have to move back to the outfield to make room for Alonso.”

This isn’t some random blogger throwing an idea into the wind. This is an ESPN MLB insider suggesting the Blue Jays as an option for one of the top overall sluggers in the game.

There was reported interest last offseason. If Bichette walks, imagine a lineup featuring both Alonso and Guerrero? That’s scary. The Blue Jays have an option to play shortstop in Andrés Giménez. If Bichette walks, this idea should absolutely be considered.
