The Arizona Diamondbacks have seemingly fallen out of the postseason race and look to be intriguing sellers at the trade deadline.
Arizona has numerous players it could trade in the coming weeks, but FanSided’s Jason Reed recently suggested the Diamondbacks could package Eugenio Suárez and Merrill Kelly together in a deal to send them to the Detroit Tigers.

“Arizona Diamondbacks teammates Eugenio Suárez and Merrill Kelly make up two of the best trade targets on the market. Suárez is one of the best power-hitting bats in baseball while Kelly has re-established himself as a reliable, above-average arm,” Reed wrote. “Both players are entering free agency, so they do not represent a long-term investment for whoever adds them.
“If there was ever a time for a small-market team like the Tigers to go all-in on a two-for-one, it’s now. The Tigers don’t have to worry about paying either player in the future and can get the tandem for a price that won’t derail things moving forward. Detroit is loaded with young talent and has one of the best farm systems in baseball.”
The Tigers need to make an aggressive move like this to capitalize on their season at the top of the league. Tarik Skubal isn’t guaranteed to be a Tiger forever, so winning while he’s at his peak in Detroit should be their No. 1 priority.
Suárez would fill a massive hole at third base, slotting himself into the middle of a loaded Tigers lineup. Detroit would be taking its biggest weak spot and turning it into a strength.
Kelly would provide another consistent veteran in the starting rotation behind Skubal and Jack Flaherty. Detroit’s pitching has been good, but adding another solid arm would work wonders.
