The No. 10 Alabama Crimson Tide has its sights set on rival Auburn in the “Iron Bowl” on Saturday night.

The Crimson Tide needs to defeat the Tigers to stay in the SEC championship and College Football Playoff picture.
However, the coaching staff at Alabama has been connected to several job openings in recent weeks, including rumors that head coach Kalen DeBoer has interest in the Penn State opening.

The program could see a serious shakeup before the offseason.
Bruce Feldman of The Athletic linked Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb to the recent job opening at California. The Golden Bears fired Justin Wilcox on Sunday amid a 6-5 start.
Feldman noted that Grubb has ties to the West Coast that would make him attractive to Cal.
“The last time he and DeBoer were together, they got Washington to the national title game. In between, he spent 2024 as the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator,” Feldman wrote. “The 49-year-old also spent five years at Fresno State, the last three as OC. Grubb runs a system that would be attractive, given Cal’s offensive pedigree.”
Grubb, 49, has no experience as a head coach at the NFL of college football level.
Grubb isn’t the only assistant at Alabama being linked to other teams. On Monday, Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kane Wommack deflected a question about his potential interest in the opening at Arkansas.
“I appreciate the question but, you know, I am just not going to address any job opportunity stuff,” Wommack said, via On3.
The status of Grubb and Wommack for 2026 is another obstacle for DeBoer before his third season in Tuscaloosa. He could have to conduct his own search to find top assistants in the offseason if they leave for head coaching gigs.
If Alabama loses to Auburn on Saturday and misses the CFP, those changes could be for the better.
