Series Of Earthquakes Rattle California Near Santa Rosa: What to Know

Gabe Whisnant

At least seven earthquakes have struck in California in the last 24 hours, according to data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The quakes range in size from a 2.5 magnitude up to a 4.1 magnitude, the data shows.

At least two of the quakes were centered near Santa Rosa, by the Geysers, according to the map.

There were no reports of damage or casualties, and no tsunami warnings have been issued.

The earthquakes have struck up and down the California coast, as far north as the Oregon-California border and as far south as Highland, California.

California is prone to seismic activity due to its location on along the San Andreas Fault System, a major fault line that has caused some of the biggest earthquakes in U.S. history.

The San Andreas Fault runs about 750 miles from the Salton Sea in Southern California to Cape Mendocino in Northern California. It passes near major urban areas, including Los Angeles and San Francisco.
