The Nebraska Cornhuskers’ third season under head coach Matt Rhule started strong but has since hit some bumps. The team is currently 7-3 overall, with all three losses coming in Big Ten play, and star quarterback Dylan Raiola is out for the season with a broken fibula he suffered against the USC Trojans.
Still, Cornhuskers fans remain hopeful that both Rhule and Raiola will return next season, though Raiola could enter the transfer portal this offseason if current starter TJ Lateef finishes the year strong.
However, another member of the Raiola family made a major decision on Wednesday. Dylan’s younger brother, Dayton, from the Class of 2026, revealed via On3’s Chad Simmons that he is opening up his recruitment ahead of signing day in a few weeks and will be decommitting from Nebraska, where he had been committed for over a year.
“My recruitment is 100% open,” Raiola said.

Dayton Raiola is a three-star quarterback from Buford, Georgia, who committed to the Cornhuskers back in September 2024, choosing the same program as his brother over offers from schools like Charlotte and Appalachian State.
Unlike his older brother, Dayton isn’t regarded as one of the top prospects in the Class of 2026. Dylan was ranked near the very top among quarterbacks, and it was head coach Matt Rhule who played a major role in his decision to choose Nebraska after decommitting from Georgia, making him Nebraska’s highest-ranked recruit in decades.
Dayton is now Nebraska’s fourth decommitment from the upcoming class, and the bigger question is whether this will influence what Dylan decides to do. It could be challenging for the Cornhuskers to keep both Raiola and TJ Lateef in the same room for another full season, given the talent each quarterback brings to the table.
