Cowboys Cut Former LSU Star in Defensive Roster Shakeup

The Dallas Cowboys have shaken up their roster following their win over the Las Vegas Raiders on “Monday Night Football” in Week 11, and a recent former draft pick — ex-LSU Tigers star linebacker Damone Clark — is among those who have paid the price.

The Cowboys are 4-5-1 following the victory, but the work to refine the group is never done, and Jerry Jones’ team has been as active as any throughout his ownership.

Tuesday’s roster moves saw the Cowboys part with several of their depth players.

Perhaps it is a sign of faith in the team’s moves at the 2025 trade deadline, as well as the improving health at key positions, as the Cowboys gear up to make a late push for the postseason.

“#Cowboys waived Damone Clark, John Stephens, activated Perrion Winfrey,” KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported on X on Tuesday.

Clark, 25, was a fifth-round pick, selected with the No. 176 overall pick of the 2022 NFL draft by the Cowboys. A 17-game starter during his second season in the NFL, injuries have disrupted Clark’s development to the point that Cowboys felt comfortable parting ways with him.

Clark has 14 total tackles in eight games with two starts for the Cowboys this season.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer suggested Clark’s roster spot could go to Winfrey, just as things played out.

Winfrey, 25, was the No. 108 overall pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2022. They waived Winfrey in 2023, and he signed with the New York Jets, spending that ensuing season with the organization. He signed with the Cowboys in free agency this past offseason.

Winfrey has not played in a regular-season game since the 2023 campaign.

Stephens, 26, is a second-year undrafted free agent who was with the Cowboys last season, too. He has yet to see the field during a regular-season game.

Wilson later reported that the Cowboys also parted ways with reserve offensive lineman Wesley French, who entered the league as a UDFA with the Indianapolis Colts and signed with Dallas in Week 2.

The Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12.
