A post on X has gone viral online after claiming that MrBeast made a series of negative comments about Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, including saying “NYC is cooked.”
The post has been viewed 3.8 million times as of reporting. It includes what appears to be a screenshot of a conversation on a livestream of the election.
Mamdani, a 34-year-old Democratic socialist, became the first Muslim and Indian American mayor of New York City this week, defeating former New York governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
His historic win has invariably delighted and dismayed people down the political aisle.
MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, is one of the most popular content creators in the world. He currently has 449 million subscribers on YouTube. This year, Forbes named him the top content creator in the world, reporting earnings of $85 million.
The Claim
The post originated from an account on X, which has the handle @TopMontagnard, which included a screenshot of what appeared to be MrBeast participating in a livestream chat about the election.
The person going by the handle of MrBeast says, “bro he’s nothing special,” “every U.S. political speaks like that,” and “NYC is cooked.
The Facts
The post is false.
MrBeast has responded to the post with his own post on X, which reads, “Why is it that everyday now I wake up to a new fake tweet of something I never said.”
A spokesperson for MrBeast declined to give further comment when contacted by Newsweek.
A community note has been added to the post, which reads, “This is not MrBeast but a known impersonator in various YouTube livestreams pretending to be MrBeast. The channel is verified under a different username but has the same display name as MrBeast.”
And while MrBeast dedicates much of his platform and content to philanthropy, he does not normally speak about politics in such a direct way.
He did not endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election and has made clear that he does not have strong partisan feelings on politics. In a post on X in July of 2024, he said: “If I were president I wouldn’t care about party lines, I’d just always truly make the American people my #1 priority. For problems I’m ignorant in I’d have experts from the left and right advise me on them and try to find the middle ground that’s best for America.”
The Ruling
False.
MrBeast confirmed that he did not make these remarks. He is not a resident of New York, is unlikely to weigh in on a mayoral election in a state he does not reside in, and does not regularly speak directly about politics.
