The 76ers blew a 24-point lead on Tuesday night, losing to the host Chicago Bulls 113-111 when former Sixer Nikola Vučević drained a 3-pointer with 3.2 seconds remaining. Tyrese Maxy led Philadelphia with 39 points, while rookie VJ Edgecombe had 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Joel Embiid put up 20 points but was just 7-of-21 from the floor. The 76ers led 75-56 at halftime before scoring just 36 after the break on 28.9% shooting. Philadelphia is still awaiting the return of Paul George from offseason knee surgery.
Cleveland last played on Sunday, beating the visiting Atlanta Hawks 117-109 to improve to 1-1 on its three-game homestand. Donovan Mitchell went for 37 points, hitting 8-of-15 from deep, while De’Andre Hunter scored 19 points and Jaylon Tyson added 18. Garland has yet to play this season while recovering from June surgery on his left big toe and is listed as questionable, as are Jarrett Allen (hand) and Sam Merrill (hip).
Maxey leads the NBA at 34.4 points per game to go with 8.4 assists a night, with Kelly Oubre Jr. averaging 19.3 points and Edgecombe coming in at 19.1 points per outing. Reserve Andre Drummond tops the 76ers at 6.7 rebounds nightly. Mitchell scores 29.5 points per game, Mobley averages 19.3 points and 8.9 rebounds, and reserve Lonzo Ball tops the team at 5.3 assists per game.
