The November 2017 temperature record for the Denver area in Colorado was broken twice over the weekend, according to official forecasters.
Why It Matters
Meteorologist Kathy Sabine noted that the high—recorded on Sunday—was “way above average” from the usual high of around 59 degrees for this time of year.
What To Know
The National Weather Service (NWS) Denver/Boulder forecast office said in a post on Sunday that a high temperature of 82 degrees Fahrenheit was recorded at Denver International Airport, setting an “all-time record high” for the month of November. The agency said the previous record was set on November 27, 2017, at 81 degrees.
The NWS then announced shortly afterward that the airport recorded another high temperature of 83 degrees at 1:41 p.m. on Sunday, becoming the new monthly record high.
Newsweek reached out to the NWS via email outside of standard working hours on Tuesday for comment.
The NWS Boulder office said on Tuesday that the area could see more warm weather, with “near record highs” across the Plains. “Elevated fire danger will be in place this afternoon near the Wyoming-Nebraska border and across South Park,” the agency added.
Cities including Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Fort Morgan, Limon, and Sterling can expect highs between 75-80 degrees, according to the agency. Breckenridge, Winter Park, Kremmling, Fairplay, and Walden could see high temperatures between 48-65 degrees, it said.
Cooler temperatures are expected on Wednesday, according to the forecasting service.
