A cat owner has shown exactly why you should always check your dishwasher before filling it after discovering an unexpected addition hiding within.
For Kal Vincent, 38, loading the dishwasher is risky business, and he must always be cautious in case a certain feline is nearby. Many people might check to see that their dishwasher is empty before adding items, but Vincent has a very different concern.
Indeed, whenever the appliance has been left open, he’s sure to find something (or someone) waiting inside. Vincent, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, told Newsweek that his cat, named Apollo, loves sneaking into places “he’s not supposed to.” Curiously, at the top of that list is the dishwasher of all places.
“He will go in the dishwasher, cupboards, or drawers any chance he gets,” Vincent said. “I knew he was in the dishwasher on this occasion. He loves sitting in the dish rack on the counter as well—he wants to be dishes.”

After struggling to close the dishwasher and then realizing it was because Apollo was lurking inside it, Vincent couldn’t resist recording a video of his cat’s antics. He shared it on TikTok (@neo_kal) and the clip went viral with more than 15.2 million views and over 3.1 million likes at the time of writing.
The online response is beyond anything Vincent was expecting. He never imagined that Apollo’s not-so secret hiding spot would generate so much interest, but he hopes that his “silly kitty made everyone’s day” nonetheless.
While many cats might avidly avoid water, the same certainly can’t be said for Apollo. Not only does he love the dishwasher, but Vincent tells Newsweek that he will also regularly “play with water” either in the sink or with the hose outside.
Vincent said: “He’s actually quite smart. He’ll regularly jump onto my shoulder and hang out with me in the kitchen or when I’m on the computer. He responds well to training, and can sit, beg, and go in a circle.”
Since the video was shared on TikTok on July 9, it has already amassed over 10,100 comments as internet users lauded Apollo’s antics.
One comment reads: “The lights are on but nobody’s home.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “No thoughts, just elevator music.”
While another person joked: “now I know who washes the dishes in the dishwasher.”
