The Houston Astros have quietly been one of the best teams in baseball this year. They used the trade deadline to get even better, specifically by adding Carlos Correa in a blockbuster deal.
The Astros are still facing some big decisions in the coming weeks, though.
Eric Cole of Climbing Tal’s Hill recently predicted the Astros would cut ties with outfielder Taylor Trammell over the next few weeks as they go through a bit of a roster crunch.

“This isn’t a knock on Trammell as he has been perfectly serviceable since getting added to the roster, but there is a real roster crunch coming,” Cole wrote. “Even if you are pessimistic about Yordan Alvarez returning this season, Houston still has Jake Meyers and Zach Dezenzo probably coming back from injury.
“Between those guys returning and the acquisition of Jesus Sanchez, the outfield is getting pretty crowded, and Trammell feels like one of the first guys to go.”
The Astros are likely to return Jake Meyers and Zach Dezenzo from the injured list in the near future. They could also see Yordan Alvarez and Isaac Paredes return to the team at some point, if everything goes well.
With those four potentially returning to the roster, the Astros are going to need to cut ties with a few players on the roster. Though Trammell doesn’t have any options on his contract, he seems to be the weak link of all the options available.
