Five bowlers remain in the stepladder final on Sunday, led by top qualifier Kayla Smith, who averaged 236.21 in qualifying. The No. 2 seed is Hermitage, Tennessee’s Josie Barnes, who was just shy of Smith at a 232.33 average.
While the top two seeds are Americans, the other five competitors are from outside the USA. England’s Verity Crawley finished No. 3 in qualifying, followed by Sweden’s Nora Johansson and Colombia’s Rocio Restrepo.
The top bowlers to miss the cut line were Ohio’s Jillian Martin, Ohio’s Jen Higgins, Pennsylvania’s Olivia Farwell, Canada’s Jade Cote, Utah’s Lindsay Boomershine, Ohio’s Shannon Pluhowsky, and Missouri’s Lauren Russo.
The PWBA, the Professional Women’s Bowling Association, was relaunched in 2015 and is the premier women’s bowling league in the United States. The most recent event before this was the U.S. Women’s Open, which was won by Hui Fen New. Of the five bowlers still in this competition, Restrepo was the top finisher in the U.S. Open, coming in eighth.
