A Delta Airlines flight whose left wing struck the runway at New York City’s LaGuardia airport was “executing a go-around due to an unstable approach,” the Federal Aviation Authority said in a statement, Fox News reported.
The FAA said there were 76 customers, two pilots, and two flight attendants on board the flight when the incident took place on Sunday.
A “go-around is a safe, routine maneuver performed at the discretion of a pilot or at the request of an air traffic controller,” the FAA spokesperson’s statement reportedly said.
“It discontinues the landing approach and returns the aircraft to an altitude and configuration to safely make another approach. The pilot and the air traffic controller are in full command of the situation.”
This is a developing story and more information will be added soon.
